We have our homecoming games today. Girls at 2 and Guys at 4. We are going to Hillcat those clowns today. I hope you all will show up to the tailgate and party and hangout with everyone around 11:30 in the Expo parking lot. It is so much fun. We gotta back our team so we can bring home the W today. Just remember it's like the Mighty Ducks, although this was the evil hawks motto, I am going to support it today. "It's not worth winning, if you can't win big" and if you do not know the Mighty Ducks as much as I do, then how bout this one. Ricky Bobby motto, "If you ain't first, you last". Hahahahahahahahaha. Yes Yes Yes. So anyways, I hope to see you all there. My advice today. Go to the game, come tailgate, hangout and have a really fantastic time. It has been a really big struggle, because I am a fine arts major. I am really good at one thing, that is Art. So when I had to take College Algebra a few 3 times to finally pass, and squeek by that history class, it was tougher then I thought. I constantly struggled on if I really wanted to be in college, if I should have tried a career school, or just go into the working environment. I withdrew to many times and dropped out for a semester, because it was nothing but hard work. Once I realized I didn't want to be breakin my back and working for my dad's roofing company any more (Sorry Dad) I dedicated myself to school, finally. Looking back and reflecting, I as well as others that knew me, never really thought I had a chance, but now in December I will have my Bachelors in Fine Arts for one of the best schools in the Nation, and I have never thought otherwise. I feel I have finally grown and found a direction that works for me. I hated studying all the time, and waking up early for classes. I hated that I had to take so many classes that had nothing to do with my major. I hated trying to find a parking spot, haha. And I even had my fair share of troubles, but now, that I am at the end. I have no regrets.

So if I can give anyone who is struggling to stay in school some good advice, it would be to stick it out. The payoff in the long run was nothing short of my dreams. I am moving forward so I can one day be just like Gary Moeller, haha I mean a Collegiate Teacher in Art and pursue my love and passion on a daily basis. Thank you for everyone who helped me grow and get better. This is not my last blog, but that day is vastly approaching. I just wanted to reflect on my experiences a little and extend that hand to everyone that helped me achieve what it is I am looking for in life.

Also, if you are struggling with school don't hesitate to find people to talk to or find a tutor who can help. Like I said it sux so bad right now, but I promise when you are done, you won't regret what you have achieved and the people that helped mold you into something more then just an "average Joe".

Stay Classy Rogers State. I have been working my @$$ off trying to stabilize the situation of this feat. This is a very intimidating moment in your education. Capstone, for those a little slow waking up today, is the finale in Season 4 (or 5 or like me 6 years) of your college education. You have to look sharp, be ready for a hate bash interrogation, and have work to back that thing up, shoot. It is very demanding and for those of you in Capstone, you get it. For those of you who are looking to face this nasty gauntlet in the years to come, be prepared to work every spare moment on this for that semester. But it will not be in vain, this is that moment in your educational history that will help you decide if you can make it in your field of study or if you want to decide to mooch off your parents for the rest of your life. It will give you the confidence to take it to the next level. The pursuit of happiness. So the BFA majors are presenting their capstones this week. Wednesday the 28th in the old student union, the capstone art show will be presented at 5:30pm, this is where my big painting is exhibited. And the other is Friday the 30th at 5:30. This show will be downtown claremore at a beauty of a place called Wolf Gallery. Both shows are demonstrated with lots of talent and skill. ADVICE NUMERO UNO - Go to these shows. ADVICE NUMERO DOS - Juniors, find your capstones and attend a presentation, it will give you a good look at what is expected. Hope to see yall in the Old Student Union tommorrow.
STAY CLASSY ROGERS STATE

This is Rob Pizzie signing off.

Financial Slacking 101

Wow. Sometimes you just have those days, when you don't know what happened and you fell off of that nice comfy chair you were sitting in on top of the world. I got some comfortable, and it's there I was faced with a very interesting situation. So I went to enroll in my final semester at Rogers State. I was all pumped up and ready, then I found out there was a hold on my account by the bursars office. I was confused because I had gotten money back from the school in Feb. So I went to the bursars office where they proceeded to tell me that my account needed to be paid, I owed them about 1200 dollars. I was confused because if I were to owe them money, then why would they give me money. Apparently after you attend college for four years, OHLAP (a scholarship I get from the state) decided it was time for me to move on and I no longer got money from them. Which was extremely odd considering I was awarded it for that semester. So in a state of panic thinking this would take awhile I found my self in a bit of a predicament. But I was able to get a loan to cover that amount and get enrolled. So I survived that wonderful attack of my loving college career. But I have good advice for you guys now. Check with your scholarships and make sure they don't run out on you, when you are seriously expecting them. Because it is not Rogers State Financial Aid office's job to keep up with your records, this is your responsibility and they do not alert you, if your money is almost up. This is your job to keep track. So keep your heads up and alert. Be ready for that day, and drink responsibly.

Also I saw a poster today saying we were going to have an outdoor showing of The Hangover on April 22nd. This is so frackin amazazing. I am pumped. That was my girl and mine's first date. Wow. It is so funny too. I want to quote part of the movie now, but I feel it's a tad pole bit to inappropriate. But "What do tigers dream of? When they take a little tiger snooze, do they dream of mauling zebras or Haley Berry in her cat women suit." haha good times.

I better see yall there. You Stay Classy, ROGERS STATE HILLCATS.

Signing Off, Rob.

Listen Up People

So I have found that being a senior is a very challenging task. I know all you other seniors feel the same way. There is so much to get done, and time is running out. All you want to do is get done with this. This is actually like my 5th year in college and reflecting back on my college career, I could have done more. I think there are so many opportunities out there that we are not aware of. But the truth is, to succeed in your career area it takes more then just being a good student. It's kind of like being a band that wants to get famous or discovered. Because even if your band is very good musically, you have to show that your music will sell more then anyone else's. You have to present yourself as a complete package. You have to show that although there are many people that do exactly what you do, you are better. It is a whole lot easier if you get involved and get a foot in the door. Although, a foot in the door would hurt like a mother. haha. But regardless, the whole blog is about getting out there and doing. Not just sitting and waiting for opportunity to knock on your door. KNOCK, KNOCK, ohhh someone's at my door, maybe it is opportunity, NOT. So as a person that wishes I would have done more, take this advice and use it. I promise it will help you out a lot when you are trying to get somewhere in life. There are many opportunities in you area to get involved.
Another thing I have noticed, is I am about to apply for grad school. You have to have a very strong portfolio, no matter what you are majoring in. You have to show how good you are through your work. A college professor told me, "you have to be willing to work harder then anyone else to succeed." And that is the simple truth in it all. You have to work hard and keep working hard, or you will not be the best.

So here are some things that might help. Since I am an Art Major these are a few organizations that might help you either showcase your work or help you get familiar faces with the who's who's.

The Wolf Gallery - Downtown Claremore - a local gallery willing to help any local artist show there work.

Art Directors of Tulsa - Tulsa Little Theatre - They are a group that gets together and has professional designers and artists as guest speakers. Really fun. Also they serve drinks for the legal age of 21 ers.

The Grad School Fair - a fair with all the schools close to this area and some that aren't that have a grad school program. A good way to ask questions and get familiar with what you are expected to apply to grad school.

So I hope this is a helpful blog. Not a day goes by I'm not doing a thousand hundred tens of millions of things. I'm afraid breathing has become a chore. But nevertheless I am here. So I heard thru the grapevine, and by grapevine I mean that chalkboard sign in the student union. I'm not cool, people don't tell me things. haha but I heard there is a bowling night tonight for Rogers State Students. Advice of the day. Go bowling. I am going to try to make it but I have a mid-term tomorrow that I have to study for so I'll try my best.
Advice number two of the day: When you see someone on campus who looks like a person you would get along with, say hi. You might make a new friend.

Stay Classy Rogers State. Because I haven't blogged since being back this semester. I have been here, just not here. I have been crazy busy. I just wanted to apologize for my readers. I hope you still will love me after all of this, haha. So anyways lets get down TWO business. I have two subjects I want to throw down on the turkey plate today. First subject matter is this storm.
I am not aware if any of you remember the ice storm a couple of years ago, but it looked like a disaster zone. I think all the beavers of this world got together and prayed to the ice gods, so they could destroy the trees. This way all the limbs would fall off and they would only have to do half the work. It was crazy tho because my neighborhood was bombarded and my vehicle at the time was scratched and bruised. So all I am saying is lets be prepared. Last time some people went without electricity for a couple of months. So a question you might want to ask yourself is are you ready for that if it happened to you? I think everyone should make preparations for the worst. That way if it's not so bad then we win. But we are ready regardless. Go buy some deIcer that stuff works well and then get a good scraper. They are sold everywhere. These really help. Next get you a great book, a cup or coffee, and relax in a warm spot for a few days or however long it takes. And on that note I am thinking about starting a Polar Bear Club, any takers? haha.

Next I want to talk about student life. I think there are many wonderful events going on and there is one I heard about that seems really intriguing. Its a day where you bring in Toms shoes and you get to decorate (STOP: RANDOM MOVIE QUOTE "WELL MAYBE SOMEONE SHOULD TELL THAT TO RAYMAN, BECAUSE HE PRACTICALLY BANKRUPT A CASINO AND HE WAS A RTARD") haha that movie is BAMF. them and make them look friggin sweet ace. I want to draw and paint an anaconda on my white pair. I think Anaconda's are great and that movie with Icecube and JLO about anacondas was actually pretty sweet too. But I encourage everyone to get involved. One thing I have learned in college is that its a lot funnier when we are kicking it with people instead of being bored in our dorms or wherever we live. So I hope to see you all get involved. I officially announce this month as GET INVOLVED MONTH. And whether they will allow me to do that or not, I don't care. Because that just happened.

P.S. There are some really good art shows coming up. I am going to be entering one in OKC with the Oklahoma Visual Arts Coalition. I will bring more info about this event when I get more details. So..............

You Stay Classy Rogers Stizzate!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!Signed Your Bestie, Rob!!!!!!!!!

A Holiday Treat

So first off to all my wonderful and avid readers, I think Hunter the Hillcat is pretty cool. I think it works really good and fits regionally. I think that Hero the Hillcat would have been a really cool name. There is a lot of cool things you could do with that name. Here is a for instance, if we are playing a basketball game and we are down a little, we could play that song, (I can't remember the name) but it goes like "I need a hero," that would be badace. But I think the name is a good one. My vote went to HERO.
So next is my very interesting and serious debate.

The holiday's are coming up and I know just like me that we will all be partying and maybe sipping a glass of wine or lets just say "Having a good time" if you do that and are legal of age requirements, that is perfectly fine. I will be doing this myself. It will be a really nice treat to sit back, be done with school, eat, drink, and be merry. I know we will all have a wonderful holiday and those gorsh dangit finals will be over, HELLS TO THE YES. But here is my advice and it is really serious. Please don't go and get drunk and feel like you are free to drive home. It is very dangerous and not a smart decision. Even if you think that you can get away with it. Because you do not want to deal with the DUI consequences and you really don't want to hurt or kill anybody or yourself. Please this is a very important issue that I feel is underrated. Because I know of many of my friends who have gotten drunk and drive and had really bad situations happen to them. Manslaughter, DUI, or killing themselves in a bad car accident. This is not good, if you are not picking up on my seriousness. Please call anybody to come pick you up. If you know me, I will come get you or find someone sober to come pick you up.

So lets say if we do have a good time and treat ourselves this holiday, go ahead but please don't drive under the influence. I can not deal with losing anymore of my friends or student peers, I love you all.

P.S. My band even has a hardcore song about the defense of Drunk Drivers and how we are not for it. If you are interesting in hearing this song. Its called Accident On I-44 and you can listen at www.myspace.com/aviynmetal. I wrote the lyrics to this song. Thank you.

I hope you all are finishing up with finals and looking ready for the HOLIDAYS, we have a whole month to party.

You stay classy, Rogers State.

Rob

Getting Busy and Teacher Trickery

So the time is starting to approach us. And all hell is going to break lose. We are approaching the time when boys become men, and girls become women. It will not be easy and any of you quitters that are ready for a rapid and eager retreat, well you might as well just start running now. I don't want to see any crying or moping. I only want to see sweat and perseverance, this is the time they call on us to succeed. The deadlines are being set and the time is now upon us. WE ARE THE HILLCATS. Man I should be in Independence Day: The Sequel. haha, great speech. Okay to clarify just what this crazy and ridiculous rant is about, I am talking about the end of another wonderful fall semester. I am sure you all are starting to feel a little pressure and are even starting to stress. We all have many tests, research papers, and other homework assignments that are being placed upon our backs because not just one teacher, but all teachers want to give us a lot to do. Lets just take my end of the semester for example. I have two final projects to do for my Art classes, I have a 10 page paper for Art History, a research paper of at least 6 pages for Humanities and a Museum trip, and college algebra tests. All this with regular class and tests requirements. I could easily use my free time to hang out and relax but I find it might be useful for my academic progress to get that early start. My advice to you all is if you have papers due, start researching using the wonderful sources at the Stratton Taylor Library and the many student links that we can use with the online library references. I think if we use our free time early and don't let those dang teachers get us bogged down late, then we will succeed. Lets just say we are 2nd and 45 yards to go for a first down, do we run it and play conservative or do we attack to try for a first down. I say we attack. Lets show these teachers that there assignments are like dog food to a bunch of ravenous alley dogs, chomp. So don't wait until the last minute to research and with the Thanksgiving break coming, use the time to get ahead of the plan.

STUDENT RESOURCE LINKS

1. www.rsu.edu

2. www.rsu.edu/st-library/index.asp

3. www.rsu.edu/student-affairs/computer-labs.asp

4. www.rsu.edu/funstuff/index.asp

So we have 1 (our website) 2 (Straton Taylor Library Online) 3 (computer lab schedules) and 4 (Fun Study Break) These are all resources with the information we provide on the web. Also, if you are looking for a good break in between homework assignments, check out my youtube video called "sink it and drink it" and then maybe watch "the top ten soccer goals in the MLS 2009"

P.S. When researching don't plagiarize because those tricky teaches know, and don't use wikipedia because that information is not guaranteed correct.

Stay Classy Rogers State

Rob Paine

OH YAH - Just as You Expected

So this is the second time I am attempting this post, ugh, because it deleted the other one right when I was done. Anyways, so I have two things I wish to say to all my beautiful readers. FIRST.
As being a person who rules at two things, clumsiness and procrastination I encounter many problems with my homework. Recently, I have decided to procrastinate my COLLEGE ALGEBRA, as an art major can I just say one thing, I hate math, I will never use synthetic devision ever again. Sorry for you math majors, I tip my cowboy hat to you and your strong wills. Back to story now. So PROCRASTINATION is a major and sever virus that effects all of us very studious students. We all wish for a free day to hang with the boys or play kissey-face with the girl-date, even if we know good and well that the homework will not complete itself. That would be awesome if it did, or we could teach our pets to accomplish this task, well TOO BAD. Since I can not take ballet (BTW I would look hot in a tutu) I have to fix my procrastination problem. I think that Procrastination is a pure evil disease that was summoned from hell to ruin our lives, but I guess I can take responsibility. Since Mid-terms and Mid-term projects (For you Art Students) are on their way, lets try this. Stay ahead of the game, and get an early jump start. If we study more, we are more likely to actually pass that test. Look MOM I got an A+++. Or if we start our art projects sooner, we are able to put a pure expressionistic representation of ourselves in the work, and truly achieve a sense of self-motivating accomplishment (Man, that sounded smart). So keep ahead of your work, or your grounded for life.

NEXT - I have dealt with a deal of depression in my life. I am not ashamed to admit or share my experiences with anyone. I think that the things that don't kill you, only maker you stronger. We must experience that bad, before we get to the good, because we learn from our mistakes, this is what growing up is all about. If you need any help with dealing with a traumatic time in your life or a bad situation that just doesn't seem to get better, Rogers is providing a great opportunity for free services, with great advisors like my Psych teach.....KEVIN WOLLER, he could cheer up a constipated troll who just lost his wallet at a Good Charlotte concert. Lets all gather around for story time. This is a story about one senior and his RSU student email. One day about 5 years ago, when I was just a wee freshman. I was enjoying the college life, with no care to pay attention to my email account. I never thought it was that important. Well...... tssk tssk tssk. I finally got into my student email account the other day for the first time in like 4 or 5 years. I looked to my inbox and BLAM!!!! I had 1765 emails over the years. Some of them were unimportant from JCPenny's sales to Facebook notifications, but as I keep checking them, I realized how much use I could have gotten out of this account. I was receiving all the important information. There was school closings, when the weather was bad, posted in there. There was important interviews and job openings on campus, which is really a nice way to go because they work around your busy school schedule. There was even emergency contacts and updates. I had been really missing out on a lot of useful information. This is a very valuable resource to someone who really wants to get involved with student life at Rogers State University. I wish I would have used it more. So my advice is use your students resources, especially your student email. Its easy and reliable. But if you are having problems with your student email, like logging in or email malfunctions then call this very helpful and nice contact number (918) 343-7538 or email helpdesk@rsu.edu. Well here is some advice that might make things go a little easier.

"You Stay Classy Rogers State"

Peace - Rob

P.S. It takes a really really long time to delete 16 hundred emails when you can only do it 50 at a time. Just a little reminder there haha.

Hey RSU,
I have heard there is a small bug going around the campus. Its not like a ladybug, or a grasshopper, but a 24 hour type flu. I hope that you all will wash your hands a lot, and try to not share germs with anyone, like drink there coca-cola, because that is so darn good. I have a terrible coca-cola addiction. But regardless remember to stay home if you aren't feeling well, but here's some things I would do if you feel like you are to sick to go to class. I visit a chiropractor a lot when I am sick, because he can help. A few cracks in the back, a few in the neck, and that headache is gone, and your already one step closer. Now, don't forget to e-mail your professors for the work that you will miss, if you miss class. It's always good to stay ahead of the game, less stressful. And lastly, if you feel you need attention of a real doctor. We have a free doctor for RSU students in the Student Health Center. Look it up on the RSU map, and go see him. It's free and then you will be back to playing ultimate frisbee or touch football in no time.

As Always, You stay classy Rogers State.

Signing Off - Rob Paine
